N20 TIMING CHAIN ISSUE

The N20 engine has been known for its infamous timing issues. 

However, the information on what causes it is sometimes misunderstood and we would like to clarify it by writing a comprehensive report covering the timing issue with all the information that is available. 

Currently BMW has settled the class action lawsuit that was filed against them by deciding to cover the cost of repair or partial cost of repair depending on the mileage and year of the BMW. The issue is that the timing chain would stretch causing the plastic timing guide to break which in turn would fall into the oil pan and plug the oil pick up tube. 

The plastic timing guide itself was not updated but the timing chain and tensioner were updated to new part numbers.If you have any other questions please feel free to contact us.
